ISO 27001
The international standard for information security management that large clients often use when assessing a provider holding their records.
RegulatoryISO/IEC 27001
The international ISO/IEC 27001 standard, whose current edition is 2022, specifies requirements for an information security management system: defined controls, assessed risks and periodic review.
Why it comes up when choosing a repository
Buyers assess both the tool and the provider receiving company records. For organizations with foreign headquarters or regulated clients, third-party reviews often ask which framework the provider uses for information security. ISO/IEC 27001 is a common reference.
Alignment and certification
An organization can align its management with the standard’s requirements and may also seek an audit by an independent certification body that issues and renews a certificate. ISO itself does not certify organizations. In either case, the standard addresses the management process, rather than promising incidents will never occur.
