Document traceability
An automatically generated record of who changed a document, what changed and when, including the previous and new values.
A record of document actions: who uploaded, created, changed, replaced or deleted it, when the action occurred and the previous value. Its value lies in being generated automatically.
The evidence an audit requests
An audit rarely asks for the document alone. It asks for the document and its history. A trail built manually when requested is a reconstruction, and the difference is visible.
How it differs from version history
Version history preserves previous content. Traceability also identifies who made each change and when, including metadata outside the file. A change to an expiry date or owner is recorded even if the PDF remains identical.
