Managing access in Legal Shelf

Alex SamanoSupport

How do we determine who has access to a folder?

The system determines access based on user type. Legal Shelf has three user types:

  • Administrators. The only users who can change other users’ access levels.
  • Users. They can only invite guests and change guests’ access levels.
  • Guests. They cannot change anyone else’s access level.

Depending on their type, Legal Shelf users can have three levels of access to a document or folder.

  • No access. They cannot see the folder or document in their library, so they cannot open or edit it.
  • Reader. They can view folders and open documents they have access to, but cannot edit document metadata or share folders.
  • Editor. They can view and edit folders and documents they have access to.

How can I see who has access to a folder or document?

From the library, click the sharing icon to the right of the folder or document name to see who has access.

In both cases, the sharing icon opens a sharing window. It shows which users have access and their permission levels. If you are allowed to change a user’s access, you can do so there.
